Building GPT PDF readers from scratch or using open source language models is difficult for non-programmers. Sometimes all you want is simply to feed a PDF file to GPT and have a conversation with its data. Simple alternatives for the layman exist, but they're limited.
I found ChatPDF, which is a site that allows you to upload your PDF file and "chat" with it.
According to ChatPDF, it helps you efficiently analyze your documents. From financial and sales reports to project and business proposals, training manuals, and legal contracts, ChatPDF can quickly provide you with the information you need.
ChatGPT can read PDF files from URL, using ChatPDF plugins
Here's another video that explains how to make ChatGPT read PDF files using PDF plugins from ChatGPT's plugin store:
In this article:
- Learn how to send PDF file contents to Chat GPT.
- Provide a URL to ChatGPT to read PDF files.
- Write a PDF file summary using GPT.
Working with files and images has been a bit of a hassle for ChatGPT. When ChatGPT 4 came out, we've been shown demos of how it could read contents of an image, identify jokes in an image, and create a low calorie food plan just from a picture of your refrigerator.
So where is this image support for ChatGPT 4 now? Well, there isn't any. Even if you have a paid ChatGPT Plus account, it simply doesn't support reading image contents, even when using GPT 4 model. It's available only to OpenAI, the owners of GPT.
A subpar way to read PDF files exists. It's not much, but it's the only way right now.The only way to make OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus read files is by installing Plugins from something called ChatGPT Store. It's available only to ChatGPT Plus users. These plugins were written by 3rd party developers, and can't always be relied on.
But it's the only way, at least as of June 17, 2023 when this article was written.
