Ohh, GTA 6 launch week — hello there, midnight-countdown captain! GTA 6 comes out on , on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Rockstar is unlocking it at midnight region by region rather than at one worldwide moment. Preloading opens on , and the download is big — up to 212 GB — so if your console is nearly full, now’s the time to clear space or look at an M.2 SSD for PS5 or a storage expansion card for Xbox (see options on Amazon).
Short answer: GTA 6 unlocks at 12 am on November 19 in each region — in the US that’s midnight Eastern, which is 9 pm Pacific on November 18. PS5 preloading starts at midnight local time on November 10; Xbox preloading starts at one global moment, 12 am GMT on November 10 (7 pm Eastern on November 9). Code-in-box copies should reach stores from November 12, and Rockstar says the preload needs up to 212 GB, depending on your device.

| Denver (Mountain) | 10 pm MST, November 18 |

Rockstar’s own Newswire is always the final word if anything changes, so it’s worth a quick look during launch week.

| Chicago (Central) | 11 pm CST, November 9 |

| City (time zone) | Local time |
|---|---|
| Los Angeles (Pacific) | 4 pm PST, Monday, November 9 |

How big is the GTA 6 download?
Rockstar says the preload is up to 212 GB, depending on your device
, and its advice is simple: make sure you have plenty of free space before preloading begins. That’s a lot of room — on a 1 TB console it can be close to a quarter of the drive — so check your free space a few days early.
A friendly nudge: the night before a giant launch everyone is downloading at once, so getting your preload done early is the calmest way to start.
- Make room: delete or move games you’re not playing right now. You can download them again later.
- PS5: the console has a slot for an extra M.2 SSD. Sony’s own support page lists the drive sizes and speeds that work, and whether you need a heatsink.
- Xbox Series X|S: games made for Series X|S play from the internal drive or an official storage expansion card. A USB drive is handy for storing games, not for playing them.
When do boxed copies of GTA 6 arrive?
Rockstar says code-in-box versions for both consoles should be available from retailers starting November 12. A code-in-box copy holds a download code rather than the full game, so you still need the space and the download time — it’s worth redeeming the code as soon as you have it.
What else happens on November 19?
On launch day, Rockstar plans to add a printable GTA 6 cover art poster and a map of Leonida to its official site as a free digital download. A double-sided physical version is planned for the Rockstar Store shortly after launch, for a token price or as a free gift with any Rockstar Store purchase.
Is GTA 6 coming out on PC on November 19?
No. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and Rockstar hasn’t announced a PC release date. Rockstar brought GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 to PC after their console launches, but anything about a GTA 6 PC date is rumor until Rockstar says otherwise.
Clear your space, set your alarm, and enjoy that very first drive through Leonida — after this long a wait, you’ve earned it.
