Ooh, the big upgrade question — hello there, upgrade-curious console connoisseur! GTA 6 plays on every PS5, and the PS5 Pro version carries a “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label — but as of , neither Rockstar nor Sony has said what the Pro actually adds. If you’re weighing an upgrade before , here’s what’s official, what the Pro hardware does differently, and when it’s worth browsing PS5 Pro consoles on Amazon.
Short answer: The only official difference so far is the label: PlayStation lists GTA 6 as PS5 Pro Enhanced, and Sony says enhancements vary by game. Rockstar hasn’t published resolution, frame rate or graphics modes for either console. The PS5 Pro has a stronger GPU, PSSR upscaling, faster ray tracing and a 2 TB SSD, but every PS5 plays GTA 6.
The chart, as text: confirmed — every PS5 plays GTA 6, the PS5 Pro too; the store label is “PS5 Pro Enhanced”; the same 212 GB minimum applies on any PS5; games and saves can move from a PS5 to a Pro with Sony’s Data Transfer; no disc drive is needed, because boxed copies are code-in-box. Not confirmed yet — what the Pro enhancements for GTA 6 actually are; resolution and frame rate on any console; a 60 fps or 40 fps mode (30 fps was reported in development); whether GTA 6 uses PSSR upscaling on the Pro; any graphics or performance mode choices. Claims from store pages that were posted and then pulled are rumors until Sony or Rockstar confirms them.
What’s officially different about GTA 6 on PS5 Pro?
Officially, only the label. PlayStation’s Grand Theft Auto VI page lists the game as “PS5 Pro Enhanced”, and its FAQ says Grand Theft Auto VI is released for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro on November 19, 2026
. Neither Sony nor Rockstar Games has described what the PS5 Pro enhancements for GTA 6 are.
The label showed up on the PlayStation Store listing on June 24, 2026, as Notebookcheck reported — the same day as Sony and Rockstar’s PlayStation Blog post saying GTA 6 plays best on PS5, which talked up the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback, Tempest 3D AudioTech and the PS5’s SSD: features every PS5 has. Sony’s newest GTA 6 post, Tim Turi’s November 3, 2026 guide to the GTA 6 pre-download, covers storage, accounts and accessories and doesn’t mention the PS5 Pro at all. It closes with We’ll have more information on Grand Theft Auto VI as we get closer to November 19.
What does “PS5 Pro Enhanced” mean?
“PS5 Pro Enhanced” means the developer has updated a PS5 game to use the Pro’s extra power — and what that buys is different in every game. Sony’s PS5 Pro page describes the Pro’s features as only available on select PS5 games that have been enhanced for PS5 Pro when compared with PS5
, and its footnote is blunt:
PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game.
When Sony announced the console on September 10, 2024, Hideaki Nishino, CEO of the Platform Business Group at Sony Interactive Entertainment, wrote that these games can be identified with a PS5 Pro Enhanced label within their title
. Sony’s PS5 Pro page lists the kinds of things an enhancement can bring — super sharp image clarity on your 4K TV
through AI upscaling, higher and more consistent frame rates
, and ray-traced reflections, shadows and global illumination — but each studio picks what its own game gets.
Has GTA 6 been shown running on a PS5 Pro?
Not that Rockstar has said. After GTA 6’s second trailer, Rockstar said Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5
, in equal parts gameplay and cutscenes, as Video Games Chronicle reported on May 7, 2025 — without naming the model. VGC noted it wasn’t clear whether that meant a standard PS5 or a PS5 Pro.
You may also see lists of GTA 6’s “PS5 Pro features” taken from store pages that were posted and then pulled in early November 2026. As of November 5, 2026, Sony and Rockstar haven’t confirmed any of them, so we treat them as rumors and don’t repeat them here.
How does the PS5 Pro compare with a standard PS5?
The PS5 Pro has a bigger GPU, faster memory, faster ray tracing, PSSR upscaling, a 2 TB SSD and Wi-Fi 7; the processor is essentially the same, and there’s no disc drive in the box. Here are the PS5 and the PS5 Pro side by side, from Sony’s own pages:
| What | PS5 (1 TB, or the Digital Edition) | PS5 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Plays GTA 6 | Yes — the PS5 version | Yes — labelled PS5 Pro Enhanced |
| GTA 6 resolution and frame rate | Not published by Rockstar | Not published by Rockstar |
| Graphics (GPU) | The standard PS5 GPU | 67% more compute units, 28% faster memory, up to 45% faster rendering |
| Ray tracing | Yes, in supported games | Rays cast at double, and at times triple, the PS5’s speed |
| AI upscaling | No PSSR | PSSR, upgraded from February 27, 2026, plus an Enhance PSSR Image Qualitysetting |
| Processor (CPU) | The PS5 CPU | The same CPU, with a clock-speed bump (Digital Foundry) |
| Built-in storage | 1 TB (Digital Edition: 825 GB) | 2 TB |
| M.2 SSD expansion slot | Yes — 250 GB to 8 TB, PCIe Gen4, with cooling | Yes — the same drives |
| Disc drive | Built in on the 1 TB disc model; none on the Digital Edition | None; Sony sells the Disc Drive for PS5 separately |
| Wi-Fi | Wi-Fi 6 (IEEE 802.11ax) | Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), with a compatible router |
| 4K at 120 Hz and VRR | Yes, on an HDMI 2.1 TV | Yes, on an HDMI 2.1 TV |
| 8K output | No — Sony’s 8K setting exists only on the CFI-7000 model group (the Pro) | Yes, on an 8K 60 Hz TV with Display Stream Compression; VRR switches off during 8K |
Two things stand out for GTA 6 on the PS5 Pro. First, every Pro advantage in the table is about graphics, storage or networking — the PS5 Pro plays the same PS5 game, with whatever enhancements Rockstar adds. Second, the row that matters most, GTA 6’s resolution and frame rate, is still blank on both sides until Rockstar fills it in. For Xbox and the full console list, see our guide to GTA 6’s console requirements.
Will the PS5 Pro make GTA 6 run at 60 fps?
Nobody official has said, and the best-known expert view is that 60 fps on the PS5 Pro is unlikely. Sony’s PS5 Pro page says compatible games can be played at 60fps, or up to 120fps
, but which games are compatible is up to each developer, and as of November 5, 2026 Rockstar hasn’t published GTA 6’s frame rate on any console.
Two reports point the same way. Video Games Chronicle reported on August 28, 2026 that Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson said the consoles are running the game at 30 frames per second
— a machine-translated, secondhand remark about development builds, with the team still to decide whether a 60 FPS option comes at launch or later. And on September 12, 2024, Push Square reported what Digital Foundry’s technology editor Richard Leadbetter told IGN about GTA 6 on the PS5 Pro:
This isn’t a GPU problem, it’s a CPU problem.
His reasoning: Grand Theft Auto games have always run complex simulations that push the CPU hard
, and the PS5 Pro keeps the PS5’s processor, so it would be extremely challenging to hit 60fps if the base PS5 version is targeting 30fps
. He added that all bets are off if Rockstar is targeting 60fps on the standard PS5
, and expected higher quality visuals, but likely still running at similar frame rates
, with the Pro’s CPU clock bump possibly giving more stable performance
. That’s an expert’s expectation from 2024, not a Rockstar statement.
What is PSSR, and will GTA 6 use it?
PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) is the PS5 Pro’s AI upscaler: a game renders a lower-resolution image and PSSR uses machine learning to add detail for a sharper 4K picture. As of November 5, 2026, Sony and Rockstar haven’t said whether GTA 6 uses PSSR.
Sony upgraded PSSR in 2026. Video Games Chronicle reported on February 27, 2026 that the new version, built with AMD through their Project Amethyst work and based on AMD’s FSR 4, debuted in Resident Evil Requiem, and that a setting called Enhance PSSR Image Quality
lets PS5 Pro owners move games that already use PSSR to the new version. Sony’s PS5 Pro page now lists that setting for enhanced image stability
in titles built for the original PSSR. Whether GTA 6 is a PSSR game is exactly the kind of detail we’ll add once Rockstar or Sony confirms it.
How much room does GTA 6 leave on a PS5 vs a PS5 Pro?
GTA 6 takes about a quarter of a 1 TB PS5’s usable space but only about a ninth of a PS5 Pro’s, by our math from PlayStation’s 212 GB minimum and reported usable space. For a game this size, the Pro’s 2 TB SSD is its most practical advantage today:
| Console | Built-in SSD | Usable for games (reported) | GTA 6’s share | Left after GTA 6 | Room for more 212 GB games |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 Digital Edition | 825 GB | about 667 GB | 32% | about 455 GB | 2 |
| PS5 (1 TB) | 1 TB | about 842 GB | 25% | about 630 GB | 2 |
| PS5 Pro | 2 TB | about 1,900 GB | 11% | about 1,688 GB | 7 |
Every PS5 model, the Pro included, also has an M.2 expansion slot: PlayStation Support lists PCIe Gen4 NVMe drives from 250 GB to 8 TB, with a heatsink or other cooling structure. So if space is your only reason to want a PS5 Pro, an M.2 SSD with a heatsink solves it on the PS5 you already have — our guide to making room for GTA 6’s 212 GB walks through it.
Should you buy a PS5 Pro for GTA 6?
Buy a PS5 Pro for GTA 6 only if you’re buying a console anyway and play on a 4K TV; if you already own a PS5, it plays GTA 6, and the smart move is to wait until the Pro’s GTA 6 enhancements are known. Here’s the decision as a picture:
Little confession: spec sheets are weirdly fun to read — right up until you notice the one number you actually want, GTA 6’s frame rate on the Pro, isn’t on any of them yet.
The decision path, as text: Already own a PS5? Play GTA 6 on it; if space is short, add an M.2 SSD, and look at the Pro again once its GTA 6 upgrades are confirmed. No PS5 yet, and no 4K TV? A standard PS5 is plenty — Sony pitches PSSR’s extra sharpness at 4K TVs. No PS5 yet, a 4K TV, and you want the sharpest PlayStation picture and 2 TB of room? The PS5 Pro is the premium pick, with its 2 TB SSD, PSSR upscaling and faster ray tracing, and no disc drive is needed for GTA 6 because the boxed copy is code-in-box. Otherwise, a 1 TB PS5 with 212 GB cleared before preloading opens on November 10. Either way, games and saves can move from a PS5 to a PS5 Pro later.
Going all-in on the best setup for Leonida? Pair the PS5 Pro with a screen that can show what it does: a 4K TV with HDMI 2.1 ports, 4K at 120 Hz and HDMI 2.1 VRR (variable refresh rate), the features on Sony’s own 120 Hz checklist — OLED and mini-LED TVs are known for strong HDR, so browse OLED TVs with HDMI 2.1 on Amazon. Sony’s November 3 GTA 6 guide points players to the DualSense Edge wireless controller and PlayStation’s Pulse audio, such as the Pulse Elite wireless headset; see DualSense Edge controllers on Amazon. And the Pro’s Wi-Fi 7 only kicks in with a matching router — Sony’s footnote says A compatible router is required to access enhanced wireless internet
— so a Wi-Fi 7 router belongs on the list if you download over Wi-Fi.
Do you need a disc drive for GTA 6 on a PS5 Pro?
No. Rockstar’s preload announcement on its Newswire says the boxed versions of GTA 6 are code-in-box, in stores from November 12, 2026 — the box holds a download code, not a disc — so the PS5 Pro’s missing disc drive doesn’t matter for GTA 6.
Sony’s PS5 Pro launch guide says a Disc Drive for PS5 can be purchased separately
if you want one for other games and films, and Sony’s PS5 Slim spec list calls it an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive that the PS5 Digital Edition can add too. For GTA 6 itself, redeem the code from the box and follow our steps for preloading GTA 6 on PS5.
Can you start GTA 6 on a PS5 and move to a PS5 Pro later?
Yes. Sony’s Data Transfer moves your games, saved data, account information, screenshots, video clips and settings from one PS5 to another — a PS5 Pro included — so you can play GTA 6 on launch night and upgrade later without starting over.
The steps, from PlayStation Support’s data transfer page and Sony’s PS5 Pro launch guide:
- Update the old PS5’s system software and sync your trophies.
- Connect both consoles to the same network — a LAN cable is faster if your consoles normally use Wi-Fi.
- On the PS5 Pro, go to Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer > Continue, and follow the on-screen steps.
- Keep both consoles switched on until the transfer finishes.
Sony’s launch guide adds that an M.2 SSD from your old PS5 can go into the PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Support notes you can only transfer from one console to one PS5 at a time. If you play GTA 6 offline, PlayStation’s GTA 6 store listing ties offline play to the main PS5 linked to your account, through the Console Sharing and Offline Play setting — turn that setting on for the PS5 Pro once it becomes your main console.
Play on the PS5 you’ve got, keep an eye on Rockstar’s Newswire, and let Leonida itself tell you whether the Pro is worth it — either way, that first sunset drive is waiting.

Questions and answers
Will GTA 6 run at 60fps on PS5 Pro?
Rockstar hasn’t said: as of November 5, 2026, no GTA 6 frame rate is published for any console. Video Games Chronicle reported on August 28, 2026 that the consoles were running GTA 6 at 30 frames per second during development, with a 60 FPS option still undecided. In 2024, Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter said 60 fps on the PS5 Pro would be extremely challenging if the base PS5 targets 30, because the Pro keeps the same CPU.
Does GTA 6 use PSSR on PS5 Pro?
Not confirmed. PlayStation labels GTA 6 PS5 Pro Enhanced, but as of November 5, 2026 neither Sony nor Rockstar has said whether the enhancements include PSSR upscaling. Claims from store pages that were posted and pulled in early November are unconfirmed.
Is the PS5 Pro worth it for GTA 6?
If you already own a PS5, you don’t need one: every PS5 plays GTA 6, and your game and saves can move to a Pro later with Sony’s Data Transfer. If you’re buying new and play on a 4K TV, the PS5 Pro is Sony’s most powerful PlayStation, with a 2 TB SSD, PSSR and faster ray tracing — but what it adds to GTA 6 specifically isn’t known yet.
Does the PS5 Pro have a disc drive?
No. The PS5 Pro has no built-in disc drive, and Sony sells the Disc Drive for PS5 separately. That doesn’t matter for GTA 6: Rockstar says the boxed copies are code-in-box, so the box holds a download code.
Can I transfer GTA 6 from my PS5 to a PS5 Pro?
Yes. Put both consoles on the same network, then on the PS5 Pro go to Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer; Sony says games, saved data, account information and settings come across. You can also move an M.2 SSD from your old PS5 into the Pro.
