Where can you buy a 4X, 5X or 6X ugly Christmas sweater?

The biggest ugly Christmas sweaters we found are at UglyChristmasSweater.com (up to 6XL), Tipsy Elves (men’s up to 5XL, women’s up to 4X) and on Amazon, and a big and tall store like KingSize is the place for a plain 6X knit to decorate yourself. We read every sweater’s size options at both specialist stores on November 7, 2026. Here’s what each one has:

• UglyChristmasSweater.com. Of the 246 sweaters with size options in its catalogue, 94 stop at 4XL, 69 go to 5XL and 6 go to 6XL. The 6XL ones are the Filthy Animal Adult Unisex Green Ugly Christmas Sweater, the I Love Xmas HOHOHO Light Up (LED) and Bells Ugly Christmas Sweater, the “Naughty” Grinch Ugly Christmas Sweater, the Grinch Head Santa Hat Wreath Snowflakes Ugly Christmas Sweater, and two 3D sweaters by Costume Agent: the 3D T-Rex Plushie and the Reindeer Ring Toss 3D Ugly Christmas Sweater. The store also has a small plus-size ugly Christmas sweaters page.
• Tipsy Elves. Tipsy Elves’ size chart runs to a men’s 5XL, but all 74 sweaters in its men’s ugly Christmas sweaters collection listed S or XS to 4XL on November 7, 2026. The 5XL shows up on other lines, such as the men’s ugly Hanukkah sweaters. Its plus-size ugly Christmas sweaters collection has 20 women’s sweaters, cardigans and sweater dresses: 16 go to 3X and one, the Women’s Drinking Game Plus Size Ugly Christmas Sweater, goes to 4X.
• Amazon. Lots of sellers list 6XL ugly Christmas sweaters and women’s 4X ugly Christmas sweaters, and many of them are sweatshirts rather than knits. Open each brand’s own size chart on the listing before you order, because the labels don’t match from brand to brand.
• Big and tall stores. KingSize’s big and tall chart runs from L to 10X, and its plain Soft Cable Knit Crewneck Sweater is listed in 6XL on Target. It isn’t an ugly sweater, but it’s a sturdy base for a homemade one (see the DIY section below).

Why is a 5X ugly sweater so hard to find?

A 5X ugly sweater is hard to find because most ugly sweater lines stop at 4XL or 3X, and the few bigger ones sell out early. A self-advocate named Kenneth wrote about it in the YAI Self-Advocates Newsletter on February 10, 2025:

I really wanted to wear a Christmas Ugly Sweater last year. At first my sister and mother said that they didn’t have any Christmas Ugly Sweaters in my size, 5X, at Amazon, JCPenney or Kohl’s online.

So Kenneth made his own at the YAI Arts Studio with a hot glue gun, felt, construction paper and a marker, and wore it to the Christmas party. That’s a great plan B, and we’ve got the steps for it further down.

Why doesn’t a 4X at one store fit like a 4X at another?

A 4X at one store doesn’t fit like a 4X at another because every brand pins its own chest measurement to each letter. We put five published size charts side by side, and one 50-inch chest comes out as an XXL, a 4XL, a 3XL or a 2X depending on the chart.

And here are the charts themselves, label by label, so you can check your own number. All measurements are in inches, straight from each brand’s chart.

Does sizing up in an ugly sweater give you more room?

Sizing up in an ugly sweater gives you less extra room in the big sizes than in the small ones. On UglyChristmasSweater.com’s chart, each step from S to XXL adds 4 inches of chest (M is 38-40, L is 42-44, XL is 46-48, XXL is 50-52), but each step above XXL adds only 2 inches (3XL is 52-54, 4XL is 54-56). On Tipsy Elves’ men’s sweater chart, the steps from XXL to 4XL are about 2 to 3 inches. KingSize’s big and tall chart keeps a steady 4 inches per step all the way to 10X. Tipsy Elves’ own advice for its sweaters is: We recommend you order your normal size. If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up. Just check how many inches that size-up really buys on the chart you’re using.

Is a women’s 4X the same as a men’s 4XL?

No, a women’s 4X is bigger than a men’s 4XL at Tipsy Elves. Tipsy Elves’ women’s plus size sweater chart gives a 4X a 55-58 inch bust, the same as its women’s 5XL, while its men’s 4XL sweater is a 50-52 inch chest. Its women’s plus labels are shifted one step: 1X equals XXL, 2X equals 3XL, 3X equals 4XL and 4X equals 5XL. One more surprise: the Tipsy Elves size chart on Target’s listing for its Polar Bear Party sweater gives a men’s 5XL as 53-55 inches, while Tipsy Elves’ own chart says 54-56. When two charts disagree, go by the chart on the page you’re buying from.

How do you measure yourself for a plus-size ugly sweater?

To measure yourself for a plus-size ugly sweater, wrap a soft tape measure under your arms around the fullest part of your chest or bust, keep it level with the floor, and write the number down. That’s how both Tipsy Elves’ and UglyChristmasSweater.com’s charts say to measure. Then match the number, not the letter, on the store’s own chart.

1. Chest or bust: a soft tape under your arms, around the fullest part, level with the floor. Write it down in inches.
2. Length (for big and tall): from the back of your neck to where you want the hem to sit. KingSize lists its knit sweater at about 32 inches long in Big sizes and about 34 inches in Tall sizes.
3. Match the number, not the letter: find your chest on the chart of the store you’re ordering from. A 50-inch chest is an XXL at UglyChristmasSweater.com and a 4XL in Tipsy Elves’ men’s sweaters.
4. Between sizes? Size up, as Tipsy Elves recommends, but remember that above XXL one size up can add only 2 inches of chest.

Something to know about ugly sweater charts: none of the ones we read lists body length. UglyChristmasSweater.com lists chest, waist and arm length (37.5-38 inches of arm in a 4XL), and Tipsy Elves lists chest or bust, plus waist for women’s sweaters. If length matters to you, ask the store before you order.

Do the biggest ugly sweater sizes sell out first?

Yes, the biggest ugly sweater sizes were the first to run out in the plus-size collection we checked. On November 7, 2026, Tipsy Elves’ plus-size ugly Christmas sweater collection had 19 of 20 XL sweaters in stock and 19 of 19 in XXL, but only 7 of 20 in 2X and 2 of 17 in 3X. That’s six weeks before National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day on December 18, 2026. Where can big and tall shoppers find a 5XLT or 6XLT ugly sweater?

Tall ugly sweaters, labelled XLT, 5XLT or 6XLT, are rare: none of the ugly sweaters at UglyChristmasSweater.com or in Tipsy Elves’ collections had a tall size on November 7, 2026. Big and tall stores do have tall lengths. KingSize’s chart lists tall sizes up to 7X, and its plain Soft Cable Knit Crewneck is about 34 inches long in Tall. Two ways to get there:

• Search for big and tall ugly Christmas sweaters and check the length on the listing’s own chart, if it gives one.
• Buy a plain tall sweater or sweatshirt in your size and turn it into an ugly one (see below). It’s the surest way to get the length right.

Are there plus-size light-up ugly sweaters?

Yes, there are plus-size light-up ugly sweaters up to women’s 3X at Tipsy Elves and up to 6XL at UglyChristmasSweater.com. In Tipsy Elves’ plus-size collection, the Women’s Get Lit Light Up Plus Size Ugly Christmas Sweater, the Let It Snow, the Cat-itude and the Sequin Rudolph light-up sweaters all go to 3X. At UglyChristmasSweater.com, the I Love Xmas HOHOHO Light Up (LED) and Bells sweater has 5XL and 6XL in its size menu; its listing says it’s 100% cotton, has bells on the sleeves, has batteries included and an elastic band at the hem. The description text on that page still says sizes S to 4XL, so confirm the 6XL with the store before you count on it. Amazon has more plus-size light-up ugly sweaters.

Yes, plus-size ugly Christmas sweater dresses and cardigans exist, though dresses stop at smaller sizes than sweaters. In Tipsy Elves’ plus-size collection on November 7, 2026, the Christmas Lights Plus Size Sweater Dress came in XL to 2X and the Snowman with Scarf plus dress in XL, XXL and 2X. 1. Pick the base. A sweater you own, a plain big and tall knit (KingSize’s chart runs to 10X), or a plain red or green crewneck sweatshirt in your size.
2. Add the ugly. Christmas iron-on patches, felt shapes, pom-poms and tinsel. A hot glue gun works on felt and patches; safety pins keep tinsel removable so the base lives on.
3. Go big on the front. A big sweater has more room for a scene, so a whole felt tree, a fireplace or a reindeer family fits easily.
