Are you feeling the enshitification?
I remember days of LiveJournal, organic adless YouTube and the like. But now, it's like the whole internet was gamified and merged with physical reality. It became a cybercenter wired directly into our nervous systems.
But now? It's hard to explain, but it's like...everything is restricted. Before, Craigslist and Upwork were free to post. That's the whole point of internet, a free portal for stuff you can't do in "real life". Now they charge just to make a CL post, or get a paid job.
For this new generation, it's no problem. I guess it's just the way the internet is, right? But it really isn't. It shouldn't be so restricted!
And it's like that with everything. Examples are countless. But consequences are real. Collectively, we call this phenomenon Enshitification.
But it seems pointless. If they were really trying to make more money, they would make the services free and accessible. And then monetize the rush. I mean, restricting causes less income, not more. So I always think, are the owners of these platforms dumb? Is that what greed does to the human mind? That you sabotage even your own income, while causing unneeded distress to society.
This is a running theme with a lot of things on the internet. And this is why on Ghost Together we stray from those types of patterns.
One example how we fight enshitification is, by letting users upload their songs and put together an album, with the help of a very simple and intuitive user interface.
It is mind-boggling why things like this are not available anywhere on the "internet" right now. Want to publish songs? Must pay $100 to DistroKid, and who knows where your music will end up and whether it will be promoted or subdued by algorithms for some idealogical reason.
What are your thoughts? Are you feeling the enshitification? Is it having a negative impact on things you actually want to accomplish in life or with your creative projects?

I had been at the precipice of a mental breakdown, and making the song kept me from falling off the cliff.

@dvarak People accept it as normal, new normal. Quality of life was not so restrictive before. The only way out is to live as freely as possible. I encountered the same thing trying to list my work on Wordpress for purchase. The software is free but only available through a paid plan. Software and platforms have already made tons, but they want more. It's never enough. If you want something simple, the simplest things, and to be left alone from restrictions to live freely through your own work, it's not greedy, but you are conditioned to be told you are selfish.
The greedy don't think this way; they don't think about it at all. Even human innovators seem to be completely devoid of seeing the outcome of their creations, understandable to a point, but humanity seems incapable of forecasting or just doesn't care. Machines, at least, can predict better.

@apri7f007s Absolutely, it's like they were gradually coerced into it. There is definitely a mind behind it. And it is sociopathic. And it leaks its insanity onto the populace, so everyone becomes infected. Antisocial and dysfunctional minds should never be in charge of something like social media. That's the lesson of this generation. Hopefully ghost together will be able to reverse at least part of the curse.

Ghost together will not become next social media (overnight) just because the Ux is good. But it matters. What will start shifting perception of the platform is the actual usefulness of what can be done on it. Albums is only first such feature. Writing will be next.

@no_identity I just noticed if album is set to paid, it will halt the song at 10 seconds and ask to purchase. That's actually really cool. If it's free, it keeps playing. We will add much better purchasing options where you can show link to others, anyone who wants to purchase it. Since you supported the site before I will be one of the first ones to buy. This feature will eventually become available. First purchase funnel will be done via connecting your account to PayPal, then they can either buy with their PayPal account or through a GT-styled form. We'll

Social media is dead. But maybe it's not the platforms, it's the people. They are tired, overinteracted with, and so on. So, just building another platform doesn't mean people will suddenly flood in. They will inherit same feelings other social medias trained them for over time.
This is why ghost together platform is not a replacement, or an imporvement. Even though it has more human features right now than any other capitalistically crystallized platform.
The plan isn't to make better social media. It's to add tools that are easy to use, to make something that people actually benefit from in one way or another. This goes beyond user interface. Even though that's fundamental. But glad we got that going for it now.
Our next steps will include creating places like Loom (sell products), Uploading songs and music album creation, a place for writing articles, and eventually if all goes well our own YouTube.
It's the combination of various tools that will direct this platform toward something needed, without surveilance, unnecessary restrictions and ideological shadow banning. Just a simple place to make it easier for humans to do their things.

Added many new privacy features. You can now block, and prevent being contacted in a number of different ways. No dm, no likes, no comments, etc per account – or complete block. Privacy access option is the first one on the menu when you go to ... on posts.
