Standard or Ultimate — ah, the great checkout-screen standoff! Welcome, cart-hovering edition weigher. GTA 6’s two editions hold the same game: the Ultimate Edition is the Standard Edition plus the Ultimate Edition Upgrade, a set of 16 extra in-game items, and it’s sold only as a download. The Standard Edition comes as a download or as a code in a box — there are boxed GTA 6 copies for PS5 and for Xbox Series X|S on Amazon if you’d like something to wrap.

Short answer: GTA 6’s Standard and Ultimate Editions contain the same game and story and unlock on the same day, November 19, 2026. The Ultimate Edition adds 16 items: vehicles, weapons, outfits, two activities and five shops only Ultimate owners can use. It’s digital-only, and Standard owners can add it later with the Ultimate Edition Upgrade.

What’s the difference between GTA 6 Standard and Ultimate?

The one difference between GTA 6’s Standard Edition and Ultimate Edition is the Ultimate Edition Upgrade: 16 extra items spread across Jason and Lucia’s story. Both editions contain the same Grand Theft Auto VI, both are listed for on the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store, and both come with the Vintage Vice City Pack and, for digital orders, a free month of GTA+ when bought by November 19.

The Xbox Store’s Ultimate Edition bundle lists exactly three parts: Grand Theft Auto VI, the Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition Upgrade and the Vintage Vice City Pack. PlayStation’s Grand Theft Auto VI page lists the same for the Ultimate Edition, plus One Month of GTA+ and the “9-Day Pre-load”, which it lists for the Standard Edition too.

Comparison grid of what each GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto VI) edition includes: the Standard Edition, sold as a download or a code in a box, and the digital-only Ultimate Edition both get the same game, the Vintage Vice City Pack when bought by November 19, the free GTA+ month for digital orders and the 9-day preload; the 16 Ultimate items - 5 vehicles, 2 weapon sets, 2 style collections, 2 activities and 5 Ultimate-only shops - come with the Ultimate Edition or can be added to the Standard Edition later with the Ultimate Edition Upgrade.

Does the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition have early access?

No — the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition doesn’t unlock any earlier than the Standard Edition. The PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store list both for November 19, 2026, PlayStation lists the same “9-Day Pre-load” for both, and neither Rockstar’s editions page nor the store listings mention early access. Here’s when GTA 6 unlocks in your time zone, whichever edition you pick.

Are there only two GTA 6 editions?

Yes — GTA 6 has two editions, Standard and Ultimate, and no Deluxe or Gold edition: Rockstar’s GTA VI editions page lists only those two. The collector’s box Rockstar sells, the Vice City Collection, is merchandise without the game, covered further down.

What does the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition add?

The GTA 6 Ultimate Edition adds 16 items: five vehicles, two weapon sets, two style collections, two activities and five shops that open only for Ultimate owners. Rockstar’s editions page lists all 16 by name, and the Xbox Store’s Ultimate Edition Upgrade listing describes each one. Rockstar’s own pitch there: Seize everything this massive world has to offer with an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story.

Which GTA 6 shops are only open with the Ultimate Edition?

Five GTA 6 shops open only for Ultimate Edition owners: Rideout Customs, Sara’s Unisex Salon, Stock 305, Electric Fang Tattoo and One-Eyed Willie’s. The Xbox Store lists them under Special Destinations Only Open for Business with the Ultimate Edition, and Rockstar’s editions page names them as the Rideout Customs Mod Shop, Sara’s Unisex Salon, the Stock 305 Clothing Store, the Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor and One-Eyed Willie’s Mod Shop. Rockstar hasn’t described the rest of Leonida’s shops yet, so we can’t say how much these five add next to them; we’ll compare after launch.

The Electric Fang tattoos come from the artist collective FAILE, which Rockstar names in the Xbox Store description.

What is the PTT Youngin$ compound in GTA 6?

The PTT Youngin$ compound is a GTA 6 Ultimate Edition activity: the Xbox Store describes it as a gang compound you Raid and escape safely to score special items and distinct contraband. Rockstar’s editions page lists the same item as the PTT Youngin$ Illegal Goods Store, so it may lead to a shop as well; Rockstar hasn’t said more, and we’ll update this once GTA 6 is out.

When do you get the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition items?

You get the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition items gradually as you play the story, not all at once on the first day. The PlayStation Store and Xbox Store listings both say the Ultimate Edition Upgrade’s bonuses are available to Jason and Lucia across their story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter.

One description hints at the timing: the ’95 Grotti Cheetah’s livery is there to punctuate later-stage action, so expect that car later in the story. Rockstar hasn’t published which item unlocks in which chapter; we’ll add that once players know.

Is there a physical GTA 6 Ultimate Edition?

No — there’s no physical GTA 6 Ultimate Edition. Rockstar’s editions page sells the Ultimate Edition as “Digital” only and the Standard Edition as Digital or Code in Box, and Rockstar Support’s GTA VI platforms and editions page says a physical Ultimate Edition isn’t available.

Little confession: a game box with no disc inside still feels a bit like a gift bag holding a gift card — but it wraps up beautifully, and the game behind the code is exactly the same.

The boxed GTA 6 Standard Edition holds a download code, not a disc: the Rockstar Store’s GTA VI page says physical versions will only contain a download code inside the box and that A disc will not be included in the box. Boxes reach shops from November 12, 2026, so you can redeem the code and preload before launch. With no disc to read, a boxed copy works the same on a PS5 Digital Edition or a PS5 Pro — here’s what’s officially different about GTA 6 on PS5 Pro.

Is the GTA 6 Vice City Collection a collector’s edition?

The GTA 6 Vice City Collection is a collector’s box of merchandise, not an edition of the game: the Rockstar Store’s listing for Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State — Vice City Collection says Grand Theft Auto VI game sold separately. It holds 11 items:

  • A Macca the Gator figure
  • Oakley Frogskins sunglasses
  • A Leonida Keys crossbody bag
  • A New Era 9FORTY snapback hat
  • A Macca the Gator magnetic mirror
  • A Chunkee the Manatee shot glass
  • A Vice City collectible swizzle spoon
  • A Vice City razor blade keychain
  • A Leonida Keys enamel pin set in a metal tin
  • A Leonida Keys sticker pack in a stash bag
  • A double-sided souvenir poster with a map of Leonida

So a collector who wants to play needs the Vice City Collection and one of the two GTA 6 editions. The Rockstar Store marks the box “Coming Soon” for pre-order and says it isn’t eligible for free shipping.

Can you upgrade GTA 6 from Standard to Ultimate later?

Yes — GTA 6 Standard Edition owners can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade later as a separate add-on on the PlayStation Store or the Microsoft Store, and Rockstar Support says boxed copies can be upgraded once their download code is redeemed. The Upgrade needs the base game: the Xbox Store says This content requires a game (sold separately).

The Ultimate Edition Upgrade on its own doesn’t add a GTA+ month: PlayStation’s Ultimate Edition listing says Ultimate Edition Upgrade is not eligible for this offer, and the GTA+ month is one per account anyway — more on that in our GTA 6 pre-order bonus guide. Rockstar also hasn’t said how items “behind” chapters you’ve already finished are handed out if you upgrade mid-story; we’ll update this when players know.

Which GTA 6 edition should you buy?

Buy the GTA 6 Standard Edition if you want the game and its story; buy the Ultimate Edition if you want the 16 extra items from the start, especially the five Ultimate-only shops. Pick the code-in-box Standard Edition if you want something to wrap or keep on a shelf.

Decision path for choosing a GTA 6 edition: if you want a box to keep or to wrap, the Standard Edition code in box, a download code with no disc from November 12 that can be upgraded once redeemed; if not, and you want the five Ultimate-only shops and the 11 other Ultimate items, the digital-only Ultimate Edition; if not or not sure, the digital Standard Edition with the same game and story; collectors can add the Vice City Collection, an 11-item merchandise box from the Rockstar Store with no game inside.
Which GTA 6 edition fits you — the same path typed out below.

The decision path in the picture, as text:

  1. Do you want a box to keep or to wrap? Yes: the GTA 6 Standard Edition, code in box — a download code, no disc, in shops from November 12; you can add the Ultimate Edition Upgrade once the code is redeemed.
  2. No box needed — do you want the five Ultimate-only shops and the 11 other Ultimate items? Yes: the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition, digital only — the game, the Ultimate Edition Upgrade and, bought by November 19, the Vintage Vice City Pack.
  3. No, or not sure: the GTA 6 Standard Edition, digital — the same game and story, with the Ultimate Edition Upgrade available to add later.
  4. Collector? The Vice City Collection is an 11-item merchandise box from the Rockstar Store with no game inside, so buy an edition as well.

Whichever GTA 6 edition you choose, buy it by November 19 for the Vintage Vice City Pack, and make room first: PlayStation’s GTA VI page asks you to clear a minimum of 212GB of storage space — an M.2 SSD with a heatsink for PS5 or a storage expansion card for Xbox Series X|S — and then preload GTA 6 from November 10. Buying it as a present? PlayStation Store gift cards and Xbox gift cards (both on Amazon) let the player pick the edition themselves.

Pick the edition that fits how you play, remember the story is the same either way, and save a little room on that drive — Leonida is waiting.

Questions and answers

What’s the difference between GTA 6 Standard and Ultimate Edition?

The game is the same. The Ultimate Edition adds the Ultimate Edition Upgrade: 16 in-game items, including five vehicles, two weapon sets, two style collections, two activities and five shops only Ultimate owners can use. The Standard Edition comes digital or as a code in a box; the Ultimate Edition is digital-only.

Can I upgrade GTA 6 Standard to Ultimate later?

Yes. The Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition Upgrade is a separate add-on on the PlayStation Store and the Microsoft Store that needs the base game, and Rockstar Support says boxed copies can be upgraded once their code is redeemed. On November 5, 2026, the Xbox Store had it on pre-order, while PlayStation Store listed it as not yet available for purchase.

Is there a physical version of GTA 6 Ultimate Edition?

No. Rockstar sells the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition as a digital download only. The only boxed GTA 6 is the Standard Edition, and it holds a download code rather than a disc, in shops from November 12, 2026.

Does GTA 6 Ultimate Edition give early access?

No. Both GTA 6 editions release on November 19, 2026, and both can preload from November 10 when pre-ordered digitally. Neither Rockstar’s editions page nor the PlayStation and Xbox store listings mention early access for the Ultimate Edition.

Does the GTA 6 collector’s edition come with the game?

No. The Vice City Collection, Rockstar’s collector’s box, is 11 pieces of merchandise — including a Macca the Gator figure, Oakley Frogskins sunglasses and a double-sided poster with a map of Leonida — and the Rockstar Store says the game is sold separately.

How this was written: Based on Rockstar Games’ GTA VI editions page, the Rockstar Store’s GTA VI and Vice City Collection pages, Rockstar Support’s GTA VI platforms and editions page, PlayStation’s GTA VI page and the PlayStation Store’s Ultimate Edition and Ultimate Edition Upgrade listings, and the Xbox Store’s Grand Theft Auto VI, Ultimate Edition and Ultimate Edition Upgrade listings, compiled into our own edition table and 16-item grouping on November 5, 2026. We have not played GTA 6; Rockstar’s Newswire is the final word.
