Hello there, clip-checking Vice City sleuth — if a “GTA 6 leak” has ever made you squint and think wait, is that real?, you’re in the right place! GTA 6 isn’t made with generative AI, according to the people making it — and the GTA 6 clips you’ve seen that look a bit “off” usually aren’t from Rockstar at all. If you’d like a real look at how big games get built by hand, Jason Schreier’s book Blood, Sweat, and Pixels is a great read, and the real thing is GTA 6 on Amazon for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Below is every on-the-record statement we could find, with names and dates.

Short answer: No — GTA 6 isn’t made with generative AI, according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who said in February 2026 that generative AI “has zero part” in what Rockstar is building. Rockstar told Kinda Funny Games “no AI,” NME reported. Take-Two does use AI tools elsewhere, and viral AI “GTA 6” clips aren’t from Rockstar.

Is GTA 6 made with AI?

No, GTA 6 isn’t made with generative AI, by Take-Two’s and Rockstar’s own account. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said generative AI has “zero part” in GTA 6 in early February 2026, and Rockstar told Kinda Funny Games “no AI” on a visit to Rockstar North in Edinburgh, as NME reported on September 1, 2026.

Nobody outside Rockstar Games can check every tool used on a game this size, and we can’t either. What we can do is show you exactly who said what, so you can weigh it yourself. Those are the two people who’d know: the head of the company that owns Rockstar, and Rockstar’s own studio.

What exactly did Strauss Zelnick say about AI in GTA 6?

Strauss Zelnick said GTA 6 is handcrafted and generative AI has no part in it. He told GamesIndustry.biz in an interview ahead of Take-Two’s third-quarter results, as Insider Gaming’s Robert DeFelice quoted it on :

Specifically with regards to GTA 6, Generative AI has zero part in what Rockstar Games is building. Their worlds are handcrafted. That’s what differentiates them.

ESPN’s Kirk McKeand added more of Zelnick’s words on , in ESPN’s report on the interview: Rockstar’s worlds are built from the ground up, building by building, street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood, and They’re not procedurally generated, they shouldn’t be. ESPN also recalled an earlier remark Zelnick made to CNBC: there is no creativity that can exist by definition in any AI model, because it is data-driven.

What did Rockstar say about AI in GTA 6?

Rockstar said no AI. NME’s Ali Shutler reported on , that Kinda Funny Games had been told by Rockstar that Grand Theft Auto 6 will have no AI and no monetisations in the game. Kinda Funny Games heard it on a press visit to Rockstar North in Edinburgh, where several outlets say co-studio head Rob Nelson gave the answer. Rockstar hasn’t posted a statement about AI on its Newswire, so this interview answer and Zelnick’s words are the official record so far.

Does Take-Two use AI at all?

Yes, Take-Two uses AI across the company — just not, it says, to make GTA 6. In the same February 2026 interview, Zelnick said Take-Two has hundreds of AI pilots and implementations running, and Rock Paper Shotgun reported his words: We’re already seeing instances where generative AI tools are driving costs and time efficiencies.

So the honest picture of Take-Two Interactive is two things at once. Take-Two is enthusiastic about AI as a business tool for saving time and money, and Take-Two says GTA 6’s world is made by people. Those two statements don’t contradict each other; the GTA 6 promise is narrower than Take-Two never uses AI. Take-Two’s results and earnings calls are on Take-Two’s investor relations page.

Does GTA 6 have AI NPCs?

GTA 6 will have computer-controlled characters, like every GTA, but that “AI” isn’t generative AI. In games, “AI” has meant the code that makes non-player characters (NPCs) walk, drive, react and fight for decades; generative AI means models that make new text, images, voices or video from training data. Zelnick’s “zero part” answer was about generative AI.

Rockstar hasn’t published how GTA 6’s NPCs are programmed, so any detailed claim about “AI-powered NPCs” in GTA 6 is a rumor for now. What Rockstar’s GTA VI page confirms is the setting: the state of Leonida, home to Vice City, coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on .

What did Elon Musk say about AI making GTA 6?

Elon Musk has said AI will soon make games on its own, and in early 2026 he suggested AI could let anyone generate their own GTA 6. On , Musk posted that his company xAI’s game studio will release a great AI-generated game before the end of next year, as VGC’s Chris Scullion reported the next day.

Then in January 2026, Game Rant’s Joshua Duckworth reported, Musk posted that AI might let anyone generate their own GTA 6 in a few minutes, before GTA 6 itself came out, and added in a reply that AI will figure what video game you’d like best. That came after Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney called text-to-GTA the next step after text-to-image and text-to-video, according to Game Rant. Musk’s end of next year deadline is — 42 days after GTA 6 launches, by our count.

How did Zelnick answer Musk?

Zelnick answered with a joke about Musk’s own job. Speaking on a panel at the Semafor World Economy summit in Washington, D.C., in April 2026, he said, as Game Rant reported on April 20, 2026:

If AI were to take anyone’s job, wouldn’t it take his job?…Like the richest guy on Earth, wouldn’t that be job number one for AI to take?

In the same answer Zelnick said he has totally accepted AI into every part of my life and is still working harder than ever. That matches his February point: AI tools can help, but in Zelnick’s view they don’t make hits on their own.

Who said what about AI and GTA 6, and when?

Only two kinds of statements count as official: Take-Two’s CEO and Rockstar itself, and both say no generative AI in GTA 6. Everyone else — Elon Musk, a former Rockstar co-founder, viral clip makers — is an outside voice. Here they all are on one page, sorted by date.

Honestly, there’s something sweet about it: in a year full of AI everything, one of the biggest games ever is being built street by street, by people. That makes this fan very happy.

One pattern stands out from our table: every on-the-record answer from Take-Two or Rockstar points the same way, and the loudest “AI GTA 6” moments all came from people outside the studio.

Why do people call GTA 6 “AI slop”?

Mostly because of fan-made AI videos that borrow GTA 6’s name, not because of anything Rockstar released. “AI slop” is slang for low-effort AI-generated content, and long gaps between official GTA 6 trailers left room for a flood of it on YouTube, TikTok, X and Facebook.

  • Fake “leaks” going viral: Kotaku’s Ethan Gach reported on , that footage shared by a verified X account as an “extremely serious situation” was 100 percent fake and still drew over 4.2 million impressions, and that an AI-made “Final Trailer” fan video was being recommended through Google notifications.
  • Fakes mixed with real leaks: Kotaku’s Zack Zwiezen wrote on , that searching around Facebook, Twitter or YouTube meant you’re just as likely to encounter AI slop as you are genuine leaks.
  • Takedowns: Notebookcheck’s Adam Corsetti reported on , that AI videos of GTA 6’s leads Jason and Lucia from the YouTube channel Vice Nation were disabled in response to a report by the copyright owner.

So if a “GTA 6” clip looked like AI slop to you, you probably weren’t wrong — it just likely wasn’t Rockstar’s. Rockstar’s own GTA 6 videos are on its official channels, and they’re listed in our timeline of every official GTA 6 reveal.

What did Rockstar’s co-founder Dan Houser say about AI?

Dan Houser, who co-founded Rockstar Games and left the company in 2020, compared AI to mad cow disease. Speaking on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio UK, Houser said, per Notebookcheck’s report of December 3, 2025:

So, it’s sort of like when we fed cows with cows and got mad cow disease. I can’t see how information will get better if they’re running out of data.

Houser’s view is his own, not Rockstar’s, since he hasn’t worked there for years. It’s still a good window into why so many GTA fans are wary of AI in the games they love.

How can you tell a real GTA 6 clip from an AI fake?

Check where the GTA 6 clip came from before you check what it shows: if it isn’t on Rockstar’s own channels, it’s unconfirmed. These five checks, in order, sort most GTA 6 videos in under a minute.

Five-step checklist for telling a real GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto VI) video from an AI-generated fake: is it on Rockstar's own channels, does YouTube show an AI generated or altered label, does the uploader name a dated source, does it show something Rockstar never mentioned, and does it ask you to download, pay or sign in.
Real GTA 6 clip or AI fake? Go top to bottom; the first check that sends you right settles it. The same five checks are typed out just below.
  1. Is the GTA 6 clip on Rockstar’s own channels? Rockstar’s YouTube channel, the Rockstar Newswire and the GTA VI page are where real GTA 6 footage starts. If it’s there, it’s real.
  2. Does YouTube show an AI label? YouTube’s help page on disclosing generative AI content says We require creators to disclose AI-generated or altered content that seems realistic, and the video is then labeled as AI generated or altered, on the player or in the description. A labeled “GTA 6” video is fan-made.
  3. Does the uploader say where the GTA 6 footage came from? A named, dated source is a start. An insider sent me this or “leaked gameplay” with no source means treat it as a rumor.
  4. Does it show something Rockstar never mentioned? A new feature, place or release date that isn’t in Rockstar’s posts is unconfirmed until Rockstar says so.
  5. Does it ask you to download, pay or sign in? Then it’s a scam. There’s no early access to GTA 6, and no PC version has been announced.

Where can you get GTA 6 news you can trust?

Start with Rockstar’s Newswire and the GTA VI page, then read outlets that name their sources and dates. That’s how we write every Open World Notes article, and launch week is close enough that the real dates are all confirmed.

So keep your skeptic hat on and your hype hat right next to it. On November 19, the only GTA 6 footage you’ll need is the kind you make yourself.

Questions and answers

Is GTA 6 made with AI?

No, according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who told GamesIndustry.biz in February 2026 that generative AI “has zero part” in what Rockstar is building and that its worlds are handcrafted. Rockstar told Kinda Funny Games “no AI” during a 2026 studio visit, NME reported on September 1, 2026.

Does Take-Two use AI?

Yes. Zelnick said in February 2026 that Take-Two has hundreds of AI pilots and implementations and that generative AI tools are already saving time and costs. He says GTA 6 itself is the exception: generative AI has no part in it.

Will GTA 6 have AI NPCs?

GTA 6 will have computer-controlled characters like every GTA game, but that kind of game “AI” is ordinary programming, not generative AI. Rockstar hasn’t published how GTA 6’s NPCs work, so detailed “AI NPC” claims are rumors for now.

What did Elon Musk say about GTA 6?

In January 2026, Musk posted that AI might let anyone generate their own GTA 6 in a few minutes, Game Rant reported. On October 6, 2025, he had said xAI would release a great AI-generated game by the end of 2026. Zelnick joked in April 2026 that if AI took anyone’s job, it would be Musk’s.

Are the GTA 6 gameplay videos on YouTube real?

Only the ones on Rockstar’s own channels are confirmed. Kotaku reported in August 2026 that searching for GTA 6 leaks turns up AI fakes as often as real clips, and YouTube requires creators to label realistic AI-made videos, so check the channel and the label first.

How this was written: Based on Strauss Zelnick’s February 2026 GamesIndustry.biz interview as quoted by Insider Gaming (February 4, 2026), ESPN (February 5, 2026) and Rock Paper Shotgun; NME’s September 1, 2026 report on Kinda Funny Games’ Rockstar North visit; Game Rant (April 20, 2026) on Zelnick’s Semafor World Economy remarks and Elon Musk’s posts; VGC (October 7, 2025) on Musk’s xAI game post; Notebookcheck on Dan Houser (December 3, 2025) and on Take-Two’s takedowns of AI videos (July 25, 2026); Kotaku’s reporting on AI fakes (November 25, 2025 and August 21, 2026); YouTube Help’s AI disclosure page; and Rockstar’s GTA VI page and Newswire, all checked November 6, 2026. Day counts are our own arithmetic. We haven’t played GTA 6 and can’t see how Rockstar builds it; we report what the companies have said, with their words and dates. Rockstar’s Newswire is the final word.
